Adeline Olvera Slaughter passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Adeline was born on Saturday, October 27, 1962, to Jesus “Jesse” and Helen Olvera in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was an Army Baby and moved to several cities including Columbus, GA, Port Arthur, TX, Baltimore, MD, El Paso, TX, San Antonio, TX before she and the family settled in Houston, TX in 1970.
Adeline graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1980. She followed her father’s footsteps to The University of Houston where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Technology. She had a career in business before going back to U of H to obtain her teaching certification. Her teaching career began in 1997 with the Aldine Independent School District. At the time of her passing, she taught at Conley Elementary. She absolutely loved her second career of teaching. She enjoyed seeing her kids learn and grow. She also valued the friendships she made with her coworkers.
Adeline enjoyed life and in her young adult days lived it to the fullest with no regrets. She appreciated all music genres including Rock and Roll, Country, and Disco. She absolutely loved to dance and attend concerts. In her second act in life, she continued to be adventurous. She loved excursions throughout the US. She enjoyed going to National Parks to hike and being surrounded by nature. But she was also fond of going to the big cities like NYC, Nashville, and Las Vegas to name a few. Her life dream was to travel abroad but the pandemic delayed her dream. When it was over, she was able to accomplish that dream traveling to Ireland, London, and Paris. She was already planning her summer of 2024 trip abroad to the Greek Isles before her untimely passing.
Adeline was a truly kind-hearted and caring soul who was loved dearly and will be missed by family and all who knew her. She always saw the good in people and loved unconditionally. She adored the holiday season and maintaining family traditions. She will be remembered as one who loved to live, laugh and dance.
Adeline leaves behind to cherish her memory her precious daughter, Alyssa Slaughter, her devoted partner of 23 years, Damon Hoover, her beloved father, Jesus Olvera, and her much younger brother, Jesse Olvera who was by her side throughout her brief battle. She is also survived by many other close relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her cherished mother, Helen Olvera.
We rejoice that Adeline has the fulfillment of her joy as she is the in presence of her Lord Jesus Christ surrounded by her family and back in perfect health. To God be the Glory.
