Agatha Gail (Scott) Witt, of Houston, passed away at Houston Northwest Hospital on Saturday, June 8, 209. She was born on December 12, 1945 at Providence Hospital, Waco, Texas. Gail’s parents were Homer Amon Scott, Jr. of Frost, Texas and Agatha Rose Todaro of Waco, Texas. She is survived by Milton Paul Witt, Jr., her husband of 52 years; a daughter, Laura Kay Witt and son Joseph Paul Reich; and a daughter Lynda Gail Witt, daughter Emily Paige Hale, and husband John Martin Kohler III.
Gail grew up in Irving, Texas and attended Irving Public Schools. She attended Texas Christian University and received a BA from The University of Texas at Arlington. During the early years of her career in education, she attended North Texas State University and received a Master of Education. She began teaching in the Bryan, Texas public schools, and continued her career in the Irving, Texas public schools. In Irving, she served as a teacher at Nimitz HS, and later as the District Coordinator of Language Arts and Journalism at the secondary level. When the family moved to Hallsville, Texas, she worked with the Educational Service Center in Kilgore, Texas, and following another move, worked with the same agency in Austin, Texas. The remainder of her career was as a National Language Arts consultant with Prentice Hall Publishing.
After retiring from Prentice Hall, she had the luxury of spending time and traveling with the joys of life – her twin daughters, Laura and Lynda; her two grandchildren – Emily and Joey; and being involved in her women’s activities at John Wesley UMC.
A funeral service will be held at John Wesley UMC on Friday, June 21, 2019 at 10am. Interment will be at the Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Gail’s wishes were that memorial contributions be made to the organization of the individual’s choice.
