

Alberta Baker Ewing was born on May 5th, 1951, in Houston, Texas, to Wordy Lee Baker and Mary Boudreaux, who preceded her in death. She was nurtured and raised in Acres Homes and attended M.C. Williams Jr. High School. She was one of seven (7) children—five (5) brothers and one (1) sister—all of Houston, Texas: Thomas Jackson (Shirley), Pastor Joseph Baker (Vera), and Matthew Johnson. She had three brothers and one sister who preceded her in death: Wordy Lee Baker Jr., Jimmy Baker, Edward Baker, and Mary Gollatt.
She was baptized at an early age in Houston, Texas. She was a faithful member for many years at New Light M.B. Church under the leadership of Bishop John Jasper and the late Pastor D.A. Easley. She served in many capacities in the church, especially in the Pastor’s Aid and in the choir. She was also a faithful member at Cathedral of Faith M.B. Church under the leadership of Bishop David Phillips Sr.
She also served as a faithful member at Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Henry Lewis. She helped to develop the Monday night prayer line, along with Sister Coleman, and served in the Mission and Pastor’s Aid Auxiliaries. Sister Ewing joined the family of Greater Zion M.B. Church in 2022. She served faithfully in the Mission Society and Children/Youth Ministry. Her favorite gift was playing the “tambourine,” and she loved sharing her gift with all.
Alberta Baker Ewing was known for having a “good heart,” being humble, honest, and kind. She told everyone she met how much she loved them. “I love you” were often her final words in conversation. She served God with all her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-three years, Sam Houston Ewing; her child, Angela Gordon; her grandson, Terry Jr.; and her son-in-law, Shannon Miller.
Alberta leaves to cherish her life and sweet memories her children and grandchildren: Patricia Jackson (Jeremy Jackson Sr.—Jeremy Jr., Jayden, and King); Angela Jackson, who preceded her in death (Johnny Sr.—Johnny Jr. and Joshua); Sam Jackson, her only son (Takeisha, Samira, Tamira, Ajunae, Keleigh, Samone, and Chase-Lynn); Ellen Jackson (Clifford); Erica Monroe (Floyd—Jo’Kayla, Joe III, and King); Nina Delton (Joseph, A’arion, Elroy, Timothy, Alvin, and Grace); and Willo Ewing, who is the baby.
Also, she raised Jeremy Jackson, Johnathon Holley, and Grace Flemmings as her own.
Alberta was loved by many and had many friends. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces and nephews.
