Dear Family of Alex,
I cannot tell you how sad I am about the loss of your son and brother.  While I had only met with Alex a handful of times through work, I found him to be a funny, caring, intelligent, professional, and competent individual.  I have thought of him many times since hearing the news of his passing.

Please know that my heart is with you in your grief.  I cannot imagine what shock and overwhelm you must be experiencing.  I am praying for your comfort and peace.

I worked with Alex at The Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church where he was our wonderful IT guru.  As so many have shared, Alex was loving, kind, patient, and a computer whiz! He could solve any problem and get you back up to speed in no time at all.  We would always have great conversations while he was setting up software or updating our systems.  When I retired from the TAC, I bought a new home computer and Alex helped me set it up remotely and transferred all my files from my old PC for me .  He spent several hours doing this and even though I asked him three times, he never sent me an invoice for his time!  Alex was such a caring person - sadly, his light has left this world far too soon, but it must be shining brightly in heaven.  My deepest sympathies to the Conwell family in your loss and may God comfort you and give you His peace.

There are truly no words that can be said at this time except we are here for you and will always sit with you in your pain should you ever just need a silent hug or a friend.  

We met Alex when he took over for Terry but we’ve known Allyn and Olga for years before that.  I think it’s everyone’s wish to leave this world having made a difference.  Alex very much did.  We are so terribly sorry for your loss.

Over the past six months, I had the privilege of working closely with Alex, someone who wasn’t just a client, but quickly became a friend. We were in regular communication, and I was speaking with him just the day before he tragically passed. In fact, I was helping him plan the very event where his life was unexpectedly taken. That still doesn’t feel real to write.

Alex was, without a doubt, one of the most remarkable people I’ve had the honor to work with. He carried a gentle spirit, full of empathy, curiosity, and a genuine desire to grow. He wasn’t just improving himself—he was striving to rewrite his story. And you could feel it. The way he listened, the way he opened up, the way he cared. Alex craved deeper connection, a better path, and a life filled with meaning. He was finally starting to step into that reality.

I still think about our long conversation at the cigar lounge in Miami. Just two guys talking about life, ambition, and how far he’d already come. That night out reminded me how down-to-earth, funny, and easygoing he was. He didn’t try to impress anyone..he just showed up as himself. And that was more than enough.

Life can be incredibly unfair. But I’m grateful I got to know you, Alex. I’m grateful I witnessed your growth, your effort, and your heart. And I’m grateful that, even if just for a short while, I got to be part of your journey and watch you start to taste the fruits of all the hard work you put in.

You deserved more time. But your presence and your progress will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, brother.

I was proud to have Alex take over my clientele after my retirement. I knew I was leaving my charges in competent hands. I just wish I'd turned it over to him sooner. 

Rick and I are shocked and saddened by his loss. We loved Alex, and the rest of the family. We wish all of you peace and comfort in this unbelievably sad time.

Alex came to Vahle as a young man apprenticing with Terry Hargraves in her IT support  business.  Terry ran an exceptional business and we knew that she would have high standards for a  new employee.  We were right about that and spent many hours working  with Alex. Those hours included wonderful conversations about IT solutions for a growing business, Europe and traveling, cars and motorcycles, our respective families and our pups. The years flew by and Alex purchased the business from Terry.   Alex was kind and thoughtful and made an impact on both our work and personal families.  

Remarkably, we had a wonderful conversation with him late last month and were so pleased to learn how well he was living life and how happy he sounded. 

Olga, Allyn, and Alexis and families, we grieve with you and will miss Alex. We send comfort and prayers.

I have worked with Alex at the Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church for many years.
He is one of the kindest, sweetest people I have ever met.
He has always been so patient and supportive when helping me with IT/computer issues, and that is saying something because computers and I often do not see eye-to-eye.
But Alex never made me feel less than, he never lost his patient with me, he never "spoke down" to me.

I only recently met Alex (in January) but enjoyed each conversation I had with him and was always happy to see him, and not just for the IT support. He was just full of life, and his level of enthusiasm and positivity was contagious. Despite not having known him for a long time, I do miss his joyful, warm presence. I can't imagine the grief for those who have the privilege to know him his (or their) entire life. I'm so sorry for your loss.

Alex was our IT contractor at the Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. But, he was more than that. He was a part of our work family. When we would gather for occasional meals and fellowship for the full staff over lunch, he would be there. He was welecomed at the table because he was one of us. His expertise was certainly appreciated, but his kindness and compassion endeared him to all. We will miss his smile and pleasant demeanor with which he heard our IT questions and dilemmas.  He always received them with patience and answered them with simple easy to understand language. We miss him deeply. Our prayers and hope for the future without Alex are extended to his family and loved ones.

But it was the personal interactions that come to mind--sharing stories of his travels, his personal life journey, and the dog talks that took place with many members of our team. 

Alex will remain in our hearts as part of our team and we wish his family and friends strength and peace as you seek comfort in your memories.

There are no words to express my grief & sorrow for y'all with this unimaginable loss.  44 years of knowing y'all, raising our kids together, being through all the ups & downs of life through the years, but I never thought we would be sharing something like this as well.  Y'all are family to our family and my kids are grieving as deeply as I am.  I wish I had the words, but I do have lots of beautiful & happy memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life.  Alex will live on in all of our hearts, & I am here for you at any time, in any way, to do whatever I can, if only being a caring presence.  I love you all & I thank God for putting y'all in my life all those years ago.  My deepest condolences to each of you as you try to move forward in the days to come.  Prayers are continuous.
