Born the second child of Alfonso Mejia Sr. and Primitiva Ramirez, Alfonso Mejia was born August 16, 1952 in Corozal, Veracruz. Although born there, he spent his adult life in Houston, TX, arriving at 25, where he met his wife, Rosa Garza Mejia. At the time of his passing they had known each other for 40 years, and been married 38. Alfonso loved his job of painting and remodeling, which he did for 40 years. He loved woodworking, and spending time outside. His weekends were full of building and remodeling his home, spending his free time working outdoors or with his children, grandchildren, and siblings. He frequently stopped by his sister Rosa’s home for a quick meal or just to chat. He was known for lovingly giving his family members nicknames. He was an extremely positive and jubilant person. He was always helpful and attentive to other people’s needs. He touched many lives and had lots of love to give. He spent the latter part of his career working in Galveston, Texas helping to restore historical homes. It is there that he made some of his lifelong friends. He loved going out to the beach and contemplating the beauty of the water. He left his earthly place on Sunday, March 5th, at his beloved home.
He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Rosa, oldest daughter, Julia, her husband Isaac, grandchildren, Isaac (Saa), Ivan (Bam Bam), Jillian (Pelona), and Jeremy (Jeronimo); son, Alfonso Jr., his wife Lillian, and grandson Miguel; and his daughter, Teva, her husband Piedad, and granchildren Blake (Blakey) and Emily (Chaneca), who lovingly called him “Papo.” He also leaves behind his brothers Alfredo and Pedro, two sisters Rosa Maria and Ana; and, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who loved him dearly.
