Alice Mae Stavinoha was born on April 25th, 1938 to Edward and Henrietta Stavinoha in Rosenburg, Texas. Raised in the farming community of Needville, Texas, she spent the early part of her life picking cotton and tending to farm chores with her family.
Alice graduated from Needville High School , “Home of the Fighting Blue-Jays” in 1956, earning her letterman’s jacket as a player on the school volleyball team. After graduation, Alice enrolled in the Fort Bend Business College Secretarial School, graduating in November of 1956.
Alice met up with a dashing young sailor by the name of Austin Lester Minton, whom she wed on May 30th, 1958. Together they rode motorcycles, hunted, fished , cruised and travelled extensively until “Al” passed away on January 8th, 2011.
Alice enjoyed the outdoors and had no hesitation baiting her own hook and casting a line, cleaning her catch and serving it up for dinner. She also had a love for a loud exhaust pipe, and spent many a day either on her own motorcycle or on the back of Al’s Harley Davidson, travelling across the US and Mexico with friends. She also had a fancy for fast (and loud) automobiles, particularly Mustangs, Trans-Am’s and Camaros, which she had for a number of years as daily drivers.
Alice also enjoyed water skiing, boating, hunting, gardening, cooking, baking, music and curling up with a good book.
Alice is survived by her sons, Alan Minton of Sargent, Texas and Marvin Minton and wife Diana of Houston, grandchildren Samantha and Raymon Minton of Houston, brother Edward Stavinoha and his wife Joan of Sargent Texas, and nephews Donald Stavinoha and Scott Stavinoha and wife Valerie of Needville, Texas.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Devotion Hospice for their attention and care provided to Alice during her final years, and also to the We are Family Nursing Home owners and staff for their tireless efforts to see that Alice was cared for with deserved love and respect.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Alice’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association of America or the Dementia Society of America to aid in their efforts to educate and assist the public on the effects of these debilitating conditions.
