His Loving Journey

On December 21, 1981, a cheerful baby boy, Allen Jevon Land “Candyman”, was born to the union of Gnelton and Ruthie Graves Land. He attended school in the Houston Independent School District, graduating from Barbara Jordan High School for Careers in 2000. After High School he attended the University of Houston Downtown where he studied Mechanical Engineering, he simultaneously studied Theatre Arts where he exhibited his talent, passion, and comedic side for acting as he would be often cast as the lead. He was currently employed at Best Buy as an LG experience expert. He accepted Christ at an early age, being baptized in 1989 by Rev. Willie Banks Sr. at New Friendship Baptist Church, currently New Harvest Evangelistic Center Ministries, in Houston, Texas. Allen served in the youth choir, Sunday school, and as a sound technician. He continued to be a faithful member under Bishop Frederick Nathan Banks until he transitioned to his eternal home on August 22, 2020.

Allen was preceded in death by his sister, LaTasha Ilaura Land; grandparents, Andrew Jr. and Ida Mae Graves, Marshall Sr. and Laura Bell Land. Allen is survived by his fiancée, Amanda Cunningham; devoted parents, Gnelton and Ruthie Graves Land; siblings, Andrew Land Sr., Latrisha Graves Spencer (Richard) and Twiila Land Cox; nephews, Peyton Spencer, Richard Spencer Jr., Andrew Land Jr. and Ishmael Cox; nieces, Nyla Land and Aaniyah Land; aunts, Ossie Graves, Edna Graves, Beverly Blake (Alton), Frances Doyle (Randall Sr.), Granada Kennebrew, Veatta Pruitt, and Beatrice Pace; uncles, Sammy Graves, Dennis Graves, Wilbur Graves (Peggy), Willie Land (Deborah), Marshall Land Jr., (Sharon) and Anderson Land; best friends, Jessie Porter and Montel Ford; god-grandmother, Valerie Rhone.

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” (Psalm 91)

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I remember meeting Allen as a young man with a large heart. I worked with his mother who also has a large heart. I will always remember his kindness for me and my two sons. May God cover the family in his blood and keep them safe. I love you Ruthie ❤️🙏

This is very hard for me to do. I know it's even harder for his family. Allen and have been friends for over 20 yrs. We became super friends our freshman yr @ U of H Downtown. We spent most of our time in the game room debating every teenage issue we could think. We would spend hours down there then we look up and we've missed all our classes for the day. Lol. We had been hanging out every since. He was truly one of my closest friends. He will be missed. I feel blessed to have known him and glad I was able to tell him I loved him before he passed.

My prayers and condolences go out to the family. Allen was one of the nicest person I knew in school. You fought a good fight and now it’s time to rest. Your job here is done. Rest In Heaven...

My God bless the family and peace be with you as you grieve.
