

Mr. Erdil was born 12 December 1938, to Murside & Cavit Erdil in Nazilli, Turkey. He came to the United States in1958 to attend university. First at a college in Louisiana then transferring to the University of Houston where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology and retired after a 36 year career in the HVAC industry. In addition to his primary career his entrepreneurial side blossomed when he started Istanbul Gift Shop in 1967 and followed that up by opening up a bicycle shop in the 1970s. He was also active in the Turkish community in Houston where he was a founding member of the American Turkish Association, Houston chapter, and became the 5th president of said chapter in 1985. Altan enjoyed spending time with his family and was described as a friend to all.
His athletic endeavors began with European handball in high school back in Turkey. Then, while attending U of H he played soccer along with his brothers Kaya and Orhan Erdil, where in1959 they defeated Texas A&M at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX. In later years he became an avid tennis player and started participating in the senior Olympics, both here in the United States and in Turkey. He also enjoyed travel. He and his wife traveled extensively after his retirement traveling back and forth to Turkey as well as visiting Switzerland, France, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Vienna, Greece, the Cayman Islands and the Virgin Islands, both US & British, along with many places in the US.
Mr. Erdil was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kaya(Rocky). He left behind his loving wife of 61 years, Sally Erdil of Houston, TX; sons Erin and wife Jenel of Houston, TX & Cem of Houston, TX; granddaughter Rachel Marie Erdil and grandson Sean Jeffrey Altan Erdil of Houston, TX; brother Orhan Erdil and wife Huri of Izmir, Turkey; sisters Nebahat Erdil of Houston, TX and Necla Erdil of Izmir, Turkey and host of other nephews, family and friends.
Altan was a loving Husband, Father and friend, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The Erdil family would like to give a special thanks to PinOak Caregivers who took great care of him during his illness.
A private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, 29 August 2020 in the Texas Liberty Mausoleum of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Altan's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
