Mimi grew up in a neighborhood where lifelong friendships began at age four. Family and cousins were around the corner or a bicycle away. There was touch football in the front yard and basketball, as well as the family dogs, a billy goat and pet baby alligators in the backyard. Mimi went to River Oaks Elementary and St. John’s School where more lifelong friendships formed. She attended Sweet Briar College and University of Texas, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority.
Mimi loved playing sports. She spent her weekends sailing, boating and fishing with her parents at the Bay. She loved Camp Waldemar, Round Rock and Austin, Texas with her Nelson cousins as well as the Texas Hill Country.
In 1978, she married the love of her life, Bill. They had a wonderful life filled with faith, fun, family, friends, laughter and neighborhood dinners. They spent summers in Maine, Vermont, and Virginia visiting the Booker family. Bill became an amazing father to Amy and another brother to Nelson, Duncan and Preston. He adored the sweet family dogs who were treated and acted like royalty.
Mimi was a loving, kind and gentle lady who doted on her daughter, Amy, family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, wife and sister. St. John the Divine was a large part of her life. Mimi volunteered at the Gathering, was involved in Senior Ministry and attended the Healing services every Friday. Jeanette Cliff George’s Bible class was so important to her for close to forty years. In addition, she worked constantly on the A.D. Players Christian Theater building committee and fund.
In her later years, she loved to watch all sports during frequent dinners with Amy and Preston. As her health declined and hospital stays became more frequent, Amy and Preston, along with her wonderful caregivers Pam Schuetze and Nairobi Dennis were by her side.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses that took care of Mimi the last month of her life, especially Nairobi Dennis, who took excellent care of her until the end.
Mimi was preceded in death by her parents, Amelia Duncan White and Lewis Nelson White; her husband Wilton Mays “Bill” Booker; her brother Lewis Nelson White, Jr., her sister-in-law Dorothy Booker Pinkham; and brothers-in-law David Pinkham and Thomas J. Booker. She is survived by her daughter, Amelia White “Amy” Wymer; her brothers Duncan White and John Preston White and sister-in-law Linda White.
