Andrea Pequeño, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, entered into the presence of her Lord on September 25, 2025 in Houston, Texas, at the age of 79; after her battle with cancer. Born on September 21, 1946, in Bryan, Texas, to Jose and Juana Perez, Andrea lived a life marked by deep faith, selfless love, and joyful service.
Andrea would reminisce about growing up in the Acme Co. brickyard in northwest Houston. Growing up alongside numerous cousins, family, and friends; attending school, working, and attending church. She enjoyed attending Emmanuel Baptist Church during the ministry of Rev. Ed Schoenvogle and his wife Vivian. She often spoke of trips to Peach Creek Baptist Encampment for various retreats. She served in the church in various roles, but had a heart for children, from teaching Mission Friends - a program for preschoolers and kindergarteners, to teaching and working with Vacation Bible School, and working in the nursery.
In 1967, Andrea married the love of her life, Rev. Samuel Pequeño. Together they started a family, and she began her journey of being a supporting wife, mother, deacon's wife, and pastor's wife. She enjoyed helping in mission work, alongside her husband, serving at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Meadow Vista Baptist Mission, Templo Bautista South Houston, and finally Broadway Baptist Temple where they served for 25 years. Together they went on mission trips, that included: Vacation Bible Schools in Nueva Rosita, Mexico, Lay Renewal Weekends through Texas Baptists, and Puerto Rico. Her continued love for children and youth also took her to several youth camps and events in Texas. In her latter years, they as volunteers at Houston's Joy Mission Center, which included working in the food pantry, clothing closet, and encouraging the numerous summer missionary they encountered.
Andrea was blessed with two wonderful grandchildren, Emma and Jaxon. They were her pride and joy. Her collection of lighthouses had to be put away to make room for all the new pictures of her growing grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them, babysitting, sleep overs, and attending their school events and parties.
After Samuel's passing, Andrea continued to live out her faith with resilience and devotion. She began a scripture-writing program, carefully writing verses each day and lifting others up in prayer. Her words, "just pray about it" or "I'll be praying for you," were not just promises— they were the way she lived. Andrea's quiet strength and unwavering faith remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
Andrea is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Rev. Samuel Pequeño; her parents, Jose and Juana Perez; her brother, Paul Perez; and sisters: Nicanora Pizzaro, Mary Garcia, Guadalupe Navarro, and Yolanda Perez.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith in the lives of her family: her son Andrew and daughter-in-law Elicia; her son Roger; her cherished grandchildren, Emma and Jaxon; and her sisters, Janie Argueta and Sylvia Lewis.
Andrea's life was a beautiful testimony of service, devotion, and prayer. She will be deeply missed, but her faith and love will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
