It is with deeply saddened hearts that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend Andrew Henry Barcia, Jr. Andrew was born on December 6, 1937 in Houston, Texas to parents Andrew Henry Barcia, Sr. and Angelina C. Barcia and was the youngest of two children; Katherine Rose Barcia was his older sister. All of whom preceded him in death, and he will now peacefully join them in eternity.
Andrew went to Holy Name Elementary School, then to Marshal Jr. High School, and graduated from Jeff Davis High School. After graduation, Andrew went to drafting school but had to abandon this ambition once his father had a heart attack at which point he took over the family grocery store, Barcia’s Food Mart for over 25 years. In the store, Andrew was known and loved by all as Mr. Andy. So many regulars loved to just come hang out, eat, and talk.
Andrew met his wife, Sadie Marie Montalbano, through Sadie’s cousin but they didn’t start dating until a few years later when Andrew drove by Sadie while she was waiting for a city bus in Houston. Even though he was going in the opposite direction, Andrew offered Sadie a ride to work. Andrew continued to offer her a ride every day after that. They wed on June 2, 1963 and shortly afterward started their family.
After the passing of his mother and sister, Andrew sold the family store and he worked for many years at American General Insurance before investing in multiple properties around the Houston area. Andrew and Sadie continued to manage these properties together until his passing.
Andrew was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His whole life was dedicated to the betterment and well-being of his family and friends. He ensured there wasn’t an empty belly, a shoeless foot, or a head unsheltered under his care.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at their lake house – playing games, riding bikes, swimming, and the occasional round of tennis. As his daughters got older and began to raise families of their own, he became “Papaw.” Andrew spent many wonderful years enjoying events with his family including holidays, theme parks, family gatherings, and supporting the grandchildren during their many school plays, concerts, sports, and other events. He loved spending days with his wife and family at the movies and going out to eat at local restaurants.
Andrew passed on to his heavenly home on April 15, 2019 at 11:15PM at the age of 81 due to complications from Parkinson’s disease. Andrew passed peacefully surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Sadie; his son, James Randall Browning; daughters, Lisa Marie Hollifield-Barcia, Paula Renee Davis and husband Ray Davis; six grandchildren, Chaz Christopher Plant, Steven Cody Hollifield, Sadie Alisa Hollifield, Lauren Ashley Plant-Ives and husband Robert Austin Ives, Shaylie Charlene Cruz and husband Anthony Cruz, and Eleana Lovia Browning; and two step-grandchildren Dillion Davis and Devon Davis. He also leaves behind many beloved life-long friends.
Pallbearers will include Sam Montalbano, James Brown, Chaz Plant, Stephen C. Hollifield, Jody Halbert,
Anthony Cruz, Anthony Pitarra, and Devon Davis.
Andrew was a loving, hardworking, caring, loyal, and open-hearted gentleman; those who have been blessed to have him in their lives will dearly miss him.
