Andrew Franklin Larson, age 61, was called to Heaven on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. He fought valiantly against an aggressive cancer that ultimately proved insurmountable, but was able to return to his home where he spent his final days in the presence of his beloved daughter Kim, his siblings and in-laws, and the two dogs that brought him immeasurable joy.
Andrew was born in Davenport, Iowa on December 26, 1964. He was the son of Roger and Margaret Larson of Bettendorf, Iowa. He graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1982, and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Army. His keen intelligence was quickly recognized, and he was selected to attend the rigorous Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, to study Russian. He received his diploma from the DLI in 1984, a diploma from the U.S. Army Foreign Language Training Center Europe in 1986, became a member of the Military Intelligence Corps in 1987, and received certification from the Defense Intelligence College in 1988.
After Andrew’s exemplary service to his country, he attended Iowa State University, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He quickly found employment in Houston’s Energy industry, where he worked for several leading engineering firms, rising to the position of Senior Project Manager.
It was at an Exxon plant in Baytown where Andy met his wife Amanda, whom he married on March 20, 1999. They enjoyed a fantastic 3-week honeymoon to England, France, and Germany, developing a life-long love for travel that would include trips to New Orleans, Chicago, Florida, New York, California, and Canada.
Andy and Amanda welcomed their daughter Kim on October 14, 2003. Andy cherished his role as husband and father, making family time his highest priority. Cooking meals together, game nights, family TV shows, vacations, and visiting museums, farmer’s markets, and festivals became the rhythm of their lives. The family was devoted to its furry companions, Windsor, Oreo, Sasha, Rambler, and London. Andy enjoyed his evening dog walks along the “bayou” by his house, and chatting with his dog-owning neighbors.
Outside of the love for his family, Andy enjoyed a wide range of hobbies. He enjoyed nights out, eating at new restaurants and old favorites, alongside sharing drinks with friends. He was an avid golfer, a college football mega fan, a comic collector, and a hard rocker. Jamming out to punk rock records, heavy metal, and a bit of Jpop tunes (that were introduced to him by his daughter). His life was full of something new at every corner.
Andrew is survived by his daughter Kimberly Larson; brothers Michael (Dianne) Larson and David (Cindy) Larson, and sister Laurie (Philip) Prossnitz; sister-in-law Denise Flores and her husband Michael Flores; nieces Ellie Flores, Lindsay Prossnitz, Sarah Larson, Jennifer Larson, Lindsey Larson, and Emilie Wentworth; and nephews Robert Flores, Jonathan Flores, Christopher Prossnitz, and Samuel Larson, as well as numerous cousins.
Andrew was preceded in death by his wife Amanda, parents Roger and Margaret Larson, and mother-in-law Elizabeth Becerra.
A visitation for Andrew will be held on Tuesday, November 10, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas. The visitation will be followed by a memorial service from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Immediately following the service, mourners will make their way to Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veteran’s Memorial Drive, for Andrew’s committal ceremony with military honors at 1:00 p.m.
