Our mother belonged to a generation shaped by sacrifice, resilience, and duty. She was a hardworking woman who provided for all seven of her children. She was not always expressive with hugs or words of affirmation, at least not until the twilight of her life.
But she was exceptionally good at one thing: she knew how to show up.
She didn’t just show up during the easy or joyful moments. She showed up when it was inconvenient, exhausting, and hard.
• She showed up with determination and self-reliance to provide for all seven of her children.
• She showed up by staying up late, waiting for her children to come home safely.
• She showed up by fiercely protecting her husband when she felt others were taking advantage of his kindness.
• She showed up by cooking each child’s favorite meal whenever they came home to visit even when she was ill.
• She simply showed up.
We honor you today by showing up for you. Our love and support of one another are testaments of the life you lived and the values you instilled in all of us. Because of you, we continue to show up for one another.
Rest easy now, Mom. You are free now to go and show up wherever you like.
