January 17, 1947 – March 10, 2023
After a long illness, Anita passed into the merciful hands of our Lord on March 10, 2023 at her home in Houston, Texas with her family by her side. Anita was born and raised in Lake Charles, LA. She attended McNeese State College where she met her future husband John T. (Jack) Bodman whom she married at St. Margret’s Catholic Church on February 24, 1968.
They had two children, Kristie Anita and Karrie Alice, both born in Lake Charles, LA.
Due to Jack being in the military, they were stationed Ft. Eustis, VA and then Mannheim and Kaiserslautern, Germany from 1970 to 1973. Upon returning home, they moved to Houston, TX where Anita resumed working as a medical records transcriptionist for almost 40 years, retiring in 2013.
Anita was a passionate genealogist as vacations usually entailed going to either visiting out of state relatives and/or genealogy trips to court houses, cemeteries, libraries, etc. in various parts of the country. She collected many items as part of her genealogy quest, many of which are over 100 years old. Her genealogy information can trace some of the families back to the late 900’s. Though she never published her work, she has been referenced in several books written by others.
Anita was also an active member in the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department serving in the Auxiliary and as an emergency dispatcher for the department and a National Registered Emergency Care Attendant.
Anita was very devoted to her Catholicism and her church. She was selfless in praying for others and not herself. She was a Eucharist Minister in the church until she was no longer physically able to serve.
Anita was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her husband, her daughters Kristie Brockman and her husband Troy of Cypress, TX, Karrie Ellington and her husband Wes of Cleveland, TX, her sister Alice Gaynell (Stanford) Clement and her husband Ray of Mauriceville, TX, her aunt Bonnie Haydel of Houma, LA, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
