OBITUARY

Anita Angelina Rossitto Scamardi

May 7, 1939January 6, 2020

Anita Scamardi passed away in Houston on Monday the 6th of January 2020. She was 80 years of age.

Anita Angelina Rossitto Scamardi was born on the 7th of May 1939, in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, to Luigi Rossitto and Maria Ivanova. Her family lived in Tortona, Italy until they arrived on Ellis Island on the 24th of November 1956, and then immediately moved to Houston, Texas where she remained for the remainder of her life.

Anita was fiercely devoted to three passions: God, her family, and her food. She was a devout Roman-Catholic who prayed daily, thoroughly enjoyed attending mass, loved to have fresh roses and lit candles in front of her Blessed Mary Statues, and always prayed her rosaries in Italian. On May 8th 1960, Anita married Jack Scamardi, the love of her life. Over the next nearly 60 years, they shared countless wonderful memories surrounded by her brother with his family, 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Anita was the quintessential “Nonna” whose kitchen was always open for love, advice, laughter, and amazing food like spaghetti, lasagna, and homemade Italian sausage (whether you were hungry or not).

She is survived by her husband Jack Scamardi; her brother, John Rossitto and his wife Rena; her children, Mary Angela Wilkins and her husband Herman, Corinne Boyd and her husband David, Joey Scamardi and his wife Colleen, Gina Sessums and her husband Bill, Jr.; her grandchildren, Marissa Wyrick and her husband Phillip, Tony Wilkins and his wife Brittany, Alex Wilkins and his wife Morgan, Bridget Scamardi and her fiancé Chris Tarnick, Haley Boyd, Trey Sessums, Abby Boyd and her fiancé Jacob Malatek, Nicholas Scamardi, Kenneth Sessums, Adriana Scamardi, and Ashley Sessums; her great-grandchildren, Stellan and Luciana Wyrick; niece, Anna Maria Rossitto; and nephew, Louis Rossitto and his wife Gretchen with daughter Maddie.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until half-past seven o’clock in the evening on Thursday, the 9th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, where the recitation of the holy rosary is to commence immediately following.

A Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 10th of January, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, where The Very Reverend Lawrence W. Jozwiak, J.C.L., Pastor and Rector of the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, will celebrate.

The Rite of Committal will follow, via an escorted cortège, at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery in Houston.

Anita was a one-of-a-kind joy who could never be replaced and will forever be loved and missed. The Lord has called His good and faithful servant.
