Ann was a devoted member of Saint John Vianney Catholic Church. She taught CCE, sang in the choir, volunteered in the church office, took part in the perpetual hour of prayer for 35 years, visited the sick, and served as a Eucharistic minister.
Ann loved to travel and embraced opportunities to learn from different cultures. She traveled to Germany, where she taught English to expatriate children; Poland, where she toured the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum; and Rome, where she sang at the Vatican for Pope John Paul II. She also made a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina and visited Czechoslovakia, France, Monaco, South Korea, Japan, Argentina, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, and many states across the United States.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro Almaraz and Maria Rodriguez, and six siblings. She is survived by her sister, Teresa Tellez (David), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones. Among them, she was affectionately known as Tia Annie.
Ann is also survived by her children: daughters Rosalinda Villarreal (Lee), Deborah Annette Johnson; sons George Armando Avila (Lourdes), Mark David Avila; grandchildren Tiffany Rhea Villarreal, Marco Miller (Valerie), Cristian Xzavier Avila, Charles Johnson III; great-grandchildren John Elijah Duron, Mauricio Duron, Jr., David Alejandro Samaniego, Lauren Gabriela Miller and Luca John Miller.
Ann had a generous heart and an open home. She hosted an international student from France and warmly welcomed several children into her life. As an empty nester, she often opened her home to Daniel Hernandez, Vanessa Sada, Lekarius Kegler, and Nathan Salinas for overnight visits—and anyone who stayed the night went to church with her.
