

Anna Simotas, 53, passed away July 19, 2010. She was born in Kavalla, Greece on December 24, 1956 to her parents Savvas and Athina Strouthopoulos. She immigrated to the US in 1967 with her family, where she then resided in Stamford, CT. She attended college at the University of Connecticut and she graduated college from St. Martins College in Washington State. She was married for 24 years to Peter Simotas. Over the course of 20 years she was employed by various Army based services. For the last 12 years, she was employed by the Houston Housing Authority where she rose to the position of Purchasing Officer, which she held for the last nine years. Anna was a devoted mother to her children as well as a devoted member of her church, St. Basil the Great Greek Orthodox Church in Houston where she was also a member of the choir. In addition, she was a member of the Philoptothos, the Macedonian Association, and the Daughters of Penelope of AHEPA.
Anna loved life and lived it to its fullest. She loved traveling and has traveled extensively in Europe. She is survived by her son Peter Simotas Jr., who is currently in the Army Airborne division and her daughter Joanna and her husband Michael Trout from Texas, and three brothers George Strouthopoulos from North Carolina, Spiros and his wife Karen Strouthopoulos and Evangelos Strouthopoulos from Florida.
Family and friends are welcome to visit from 5-7 P.M., with Trisagion Prayers at 7:00 P.M., on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Funeral Services will follow on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Basil the Great Greek Orthodox Church, 1100 Eldridge Parkway, Houston, TX 77077. Interment in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
