Anna Pearl Smith, “Popeye” was born in Lovelady, Texas on January 20, 1941 to Johnnie and Louise Foreman which she was the fifth of eleven siblings. The family moved to the Carverdale /Fairbanks area early in Anna Pearl’s life.
In 1957 Anna Pearl “Popeye” met her soul mate, Theodore R. Smith. They married in 1959, producing five children: Roy Lee Smith, Sally Ann, Theodore Jr., Jackie and Tommy, in addition to her own children Nathan Foreman, “Bo”. To this union she had two daughters in laws, one son in law, thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren
Though she had her own family, she never lost touch with her siblings. It meant calling them to tell them she was right or being there to support them in whatever they may have had going on in their lives. This was not only her blood siblings but her sisters- and brothers-in-law especially, Ruby Kyle.
Theodore was the provider of the family but Anna Pearl was the heart and backbone. This woman had been a blessing to every person that had been around her in her life, whether they were her children (biological and adoptive), her grandchildren, her family members, or her circle of friends.
In 1971 Anna Pearl joined Calvary Missionary Baptist Church as a founding member, under the leadership of Rev. A. R. Campbell. Anna Pearl was very active in the church, serving on the Usher Board from the time that she joined. Anna Pearl remained an active member of Calvary, often speaking during the church anniversaries, telling from where the church had come, where it was now and where it was going. She remained there until her call home on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012. She was the last founding member.
She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband Theodore Smith, Her children Roy Lee Smith, Theodore Smith Jr. (Roanna), Jackie Thornton (Eugene), Nathan Foreman (Reese), and Tommy Smith (Christina). Her grandchildren Steven Smith( Antoinette), Theodore Smith III, David Jones, Roy Smith Jr., Markesha Ross, Amber Smith, Jasmine Smith, Christopher Smith, Ashley Smith, Haley Smith, Allison Smith and Alexa Smith. Great grandchildren: Jaden Smith, Tyler Smith, Taylor Smith, Kandyce Smith and Aiden Starks. Brother’s Johnnie Foreman (Dora), Melvin Foreman (Carolyn). Sisters Jessie B Guillory (Freddie), Gertie B Townsend, Lillian Thorn ( Bobby), Gloria Jones. She leaves a host of nephews and nieces.
Anna Pearl was preceded in death by her mother and father, Johnnie and Louise Foreman. Daughter, Sally Ann. Sisters, Maureen Whitfield and Leotha Shepherd. Brothers, Johnnie Perkins and David Foreman.
As Anna Pearl continued down her path she still offered parental advice, grandmotherly love and letting her siblings know she was right.
Anna Pearl was truly God’s gift to us. She will be tremendously missed, but we must remove our selfishness and know she has gone to be with her Savior.
