Annie F. Vance

Annie Fay Vance, 89, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home on September 17, 2022, surrounded by family and care givers. Fay was born on August 18, 1933, to parents, Clara Brown and Millard “Red” Williams, in Gary, Texas, which is a small country town in East Texas between Carthage and Timpson, Texas. The family moved to Livingston, Texas shortly thereafter. She attended Dunbar Elementary and High School in Livingston, Texas, where she met her high school sweetheart, Don Shelby Banks. Of this union, she had her daughter, Shirley Banks-Robinson. After the death of her mother, in 1956, she and her family moved to Houston, Texas and remained until her passing. Fay worked for many decades as a housekeeper for many private households.

In 1978, she had her second child, Andre Duane Vance, through her union with Helon Vance. Fay enjoyed spending time with her sisters, children, and large family, which always included good food, music and dancing.

Fay is preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Millard Williams; sisters, Bertha Blankenship, Mildred Joyce, Eddie Lee Joyce, Lillie B. Mitchell, Florence Williams, and Cecil Criswell; and only brother, L.C. Williams.

She is survived by her sister, Christine Williams; two children, Shirley Banks-Robinson and Andre Vance; grandchildren, Lionel James Mills II and Dr. Monique R. Pappadis; great-grandchildren, Kiana Mills LaGrue (Colby), Joshua Mills, and Josiah Pappadis; a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and cousins; and her neighbors of over 40 years (The Acevedo and Ramos families).

Donations can be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.

The family will receive friends and family for visitation on Friday, September 30, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral service will occur Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, followed by a burial at the family cemetery in Livingston, Texas, the Brown Family Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
