Ann was born June 23, 1934 to Joseph Louis Griffin and Opal Mae Griffen (née Schulze). She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Robert, her sister Nancy, her daughter Regena (Gena) Collin, and son Robert (Bubby) Scott. She is survived by her husband Howard (Pete) Marquis, her brother John Griffin, her grandchildren Angela (Angie) Collin and Christopher (Chris) Collin, and her great-grandchildren Kayla Buckley, Cadence LaVoie, Steven LaVoie, and PJ LaVoie.
Ann graduated high school early in 1950, and attended business school. She had a great skill with math and accounting and worked in, and later managed, credit unions. She passed her skill with numbers on to her daughter and grandson, who worked in similar fields. She made numerous friendships at these credit unions over the years, which she maintained throughout her life.
More than anything else, Ann was a dedicated mother and would do anything for her children. When her son was born with a rare genetic condition, she spent years finding and taking him to the best doctors to ensure he had the best treatments possible. Her daughter was her closest friend, and even after she married and moved to another state, they spoke every day usually for hours on end.
Ann loved crafting, and was highly skilled at whatever she put her hand to. Her and her family’s homes are a testament to this, filled with many pieces of her work. Quilting, cross-stitch, stained glass, paintings, pottery, and many other pieces take up places of pride on her family’s walls and mantles, and are constant reminders of her love and exceptional skill at whatever she tried. She passed this love of crafting and art to her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter, and her stained glass pieces inspired her granddaughter to go into business developing new applications for resin and laser-cut wood, among other crafts.
Ann and her husband Pete were inveterate animal lovers, and always had pets which they showered love on over the years. This dates back to Ann as a child, who saw a possum, one of the ugliest of God’s creatures, and decided it was just a pet that needed to be loved. They were life-long donors to the ASPCA, and she is survived by her beloved cats Molly and Toby, who she spoiled rotten.
Ann was tough as nails and took everything life threw at her head on, but she was also one of the friendliest, most welcoming people you could meet. Ann loved nothing more than keeping up correspondence and conversation with friends and family, and could always be relied upon for good long talks and stories late into the evening, even if she had not seen the person in years, or had only a brief meeting in person. Everyone who met her knew how special she was, and she will be greatly missed by all who had the fortune of getting to know her.
A graveside services will be held in their honor on Friday 01/27/2023 at 10:00 am at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX.
