Anthony Glen Martin, 63, was born May 31, 1956 in San Antonio, Texas and passed away November 10, 2019 in Fort Myers, Florida at the World Series Adult Baseball Tournament. He hit a double and collapsed on second base. He would want that information told to everyone.
Anthony graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1974. He attended Temple Junior College from 1975-1976 on a basketball scholarship. It was in Temple that he met the love of his life, Mary Catherine Boldt. They were married on November 13, 1976. Anthony spent the majority of his professional career in the college bookstore industry. He started in sales, moved to managing the bookstore at HBU for over 20 years, and most recently worked for Indico.
Anthony was an athlete at heart. He was either heading to a baseball game, a tennis match, a golf course, or his orthopedic surgeon. As much as he loved sports, that paled in comparison to his love for his family. Mary is, was, and always will be the love of his life. He set the example of how a man should love a woman. As a father, he lived up to “the world’s greatest dad” motto. And just when you thought he had peaked at greatness, he became “Pops!” He loved his grandbabies like only a “Pops” could.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather Bill Hewitt, mother Glenda Hewitt, and father A. J. Martin. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Mary Martin; his two daughters, Amy Harris and husband Chad, Amber Cabell and husband Stephen; his brother, Richard Martin and wife Mardel; his sister, Lisa Farthing and husband Mike; and his six grandchildren, Benjamin Harris (11), Lilly Cabell (9), Kendall Cabell (6), Bailee Harris (6), Blake Harris (6), and Maci Cabell (2).
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 9:00 am until 10:00 am with a funeral service following at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Dunham Theater in the Morris Cultural Art Center on the campus of Houston Baptist University, 7502 Fondren Road, Houston, TX 77074. A reception will follow the service in the McNair Hall at Houston Baptist University.
