Ardele Maria HAYWOOD

November 28, 1942November 11, 2020

Ardele Maria Gabriel Haywood was born on November 28, 1942 in Houston, Texas to Willie Gabriel and Vivian Polite Gabriel. Although born in Houston, Ardele had roots in Port Arthur, Texas, St. Martinville, Louisiana and New Iberia, Louisiana.

Ardele married her beloved husband, Robert Bonnie Haywood, on July 26, 1961. They were married 41 years, until his passing in February 2009. Together they bore one child, Robert Bonnie Haywood, Jr. also known as “Bobby”. Bobby diligently cared for both of his parents in their home until their earthly departure.

Ardele was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents and her sisters Marilyn Williams and Nettie Grace Rasmus. She leaves behind her son “Bobby”; her grandson Gabriel Alexander Haywood “Alex”; her sisters Deborah Gabriel Bernier and JoAnn Gabriel; her brothers Willie Gabriel Jr., Oscar Wells Gabriel II, and William Leonard Gabriel.

After years of being a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Houston, Ardele joined Bay Area Baptist Church in 1998 and worshipped there until 2004, when she joined the newly planted Fellowship of Believers Baptist Church, under the tutelage of Pastor Julian Davis III. Ardele was an active member of the WOW Women’s Ministry and served diligently as an Usher until she became ill. Ardele drove over 30 miles from Acres Homes to attend Sunday school, Sunday worship services and Bible Study. She often stated “Jesus went the distance for her, therefore she would go the distance to serve and learn of Him”. Her love for church family was immeasurable.

She leaves behind cherished memories with her son, grandson and a host of family and friends.
