It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and husband, Anil Swani, on the morning of Tuesday, the 13th of August 2024. Anil passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 60 years old.
Anil was born on May 12th, 1964 in Roskilde, Denmark, to a Danish mother and Indian father. His father was an esteemed academic, and his mother was a devoted homemaker. Anil spent his formative years in New Delhi, India. He embraced the vibrant culture of the country, which shaped his warm and social nature.
When it came time to attend university, Anil made his first (of many) adventurous decisions; he would move across the globe to attend the Technical University of Denmark. He quickly adapted to his new environment, mastering the Danish language, living in a Kollegium (dorm) with his soon-to-be best friends, and finding a love for Carlsberg beer and Danish open sandwiches. Anil earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Digital Electronics and Computer Science.
Upon graduation, he worked as an engineer with Schlumberger in Ras Shukeir, Egypt. Through his career, he opted to work in unique locations and especially enjoyed forming connections with people from all over the world. On a trip back home, Anil met his wife, Poonam in 1993, and it was love at first sight. They were married nine months later and went on to have two daughters, Sherine and Tania. After spending years living in countries such as India, Saudi Arabia, France and Scotland, Anil settled with his family in Houston in 2011.
On the day-to-day, Anil appreciated all the little things. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing tennis, walking his dog Milo around the lake and flipping through pages of the Wall Street Journal. He had a knack for quickly making friends and keeping them throughout his lifetime. He held the unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered, discussing anything from geopolitics to comedy and culture. He truly impacted every single person he met and inspired others with his straightforward nature, bright smile, and positivity.
Friends are cordially invited to greet the family during a visitation from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening on Sunday, the 18th of August, in the Old Republic Wine Room of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A memorial service will commence at half-past four in the Jasek Chapel.
