

Arthur L. Lewis was born on April 13, 1936, in Crockett, Texas, to te union of Burvia B. Lewis and Letha Wheeler lewis. His formal education was completed in the public schools of Crockett, Texas. Art's interest in music was first fostered in the church In his words, "It had so much power behind it, you couldn't sit down. You had to hold on to your seat and if you did'nt watch it, you'd start hollering....Hallelujah; and Thank you Jesus!" His initial interest led him to a professional career as a saxaphonist, with successful artist as, Bobby Blue Bland, T-Bone Walker, Muddy Waters, Guitar Slim and many others. Arthur L. Lewis departed this life on January 31, 2012. A Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2012, with a visitation beginning at 10:00AM., followed by his funeral services to begin at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Paradise North Cemetery. Art is preceded in death by his beloved parents. Those left to cherish the memory and legacy of Arthur are his aunts: Ruth Wheeler Hollis, Reba Lewis and Lucille Lewis. Cousins: Lester Smith,III,and Willie Jean Davis. His music partner, Howard M. Smith, and a host of other fellow musicians, relatives and friends.
