Arturo Solis Martinez

Arturo Solis Martinez, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 1st, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Sinton, Texas on January 3, 1951, Arturo was the beloved son of Reyes and Berta Martinez. As the child of migrant parents, he learned early the values that would shape his life: hard work, perseverance, and the belief that dedication could open doors to a better future. He carried those lessons with him throughout his entire life.

Arturo built a long and meaningful career as a Civil Engineering Designer. He took quiet pride in his work, and anyone who drove past an old project with him would hear him say—often with a small smile—“I designed that.” Yet despite his accomplishments, Arturo always said his greatest achievement was his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Martinez; his son, Joe Martinez and wife Norma; his cherished granddaughters, Ashley (Jaime) Lira and Chloe Martinez; his sister-in-law, Alicia Sheely; and his niece, Lisa Vela.

He is also survived by his father, Reyes Martinez; his sisters, Juana Castillo, Elena Hinojosa, and Estela Voltoline; and his brothers, Eddy and Ricardo Martinez and numerous nieces and nephews. Arturo is preceded in death by his mother, Berta Martinez; his sister, Socorro Maldonado; and his brother, Carlos Martinez.

Generous by nature and loyal to a fault, Arturo was both dependable and deeply sincere. He believed in speaking the truth—even when the truth could be difficult to hear—and those who knew him respected him for his unwavering honesty. He valued loyalty, hard work, and doing what was right, no matter how simple or small the act.

Arturo enjoyed the comforts of home: watching TV, listening to music, and losing himself in the familiar rhythm of old westerns. He loved his pickup truck and took great pride in maintaining his lawn. He was also a longtime fan of both tennis and golf, finding joy in the game whether he was watching or playing. And though he lived a grounded, steady life, he surprised everyone with one unforgettable adventure—the day he went skydiving, a story he carried with pride and humor for years afterward. These moments reflected the heart of who he was: steady, humble, and quietly full of surprises.

His struggle, perseverance, and eventual success were not only a source of inspiration for his son but also for all who knew his story. Above all, he will be remembered as a hard worker, a man who gave everything he had to the people he loved and the responsibilities he carried.

As we grieve his passing, we find strength in the message of Psalm 130, which reminds us that even “out of the depths,” there is hope, mercy, and redemption. The Psalm’s quiet assurance mirrors the peace we wish for Arturo now—a rest beyond struggle, and a light beyond sorrow. “Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord… My soul waiteth for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning.”

A service to honor his life will be held on December 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
