Tynes was born in Dublin, Texas, to Ed and Lucille Tynes Sparks on the 24th of March 1925. He attended Dublin High School and graduated with a BBA from the University of Texas in Austin in 1948.
He then married Mary Isabelle (Sissy) Rouse in 1949, and began working for his father-in-law at C. C. Rouse Building Corporation. Tynes inherited the company which became Tynes Sparks Building Corporation and has built some of the finest homes in Houston. Son-in-law, Mike Cannon, began working for the company 30 years ago making it what Tynes called a “matriarchal progression.” Tynes enjoyed every minute of building beautiful homes and never considered retiring.
He proudly served his country in World War II in Company C, 34th Infantry, 24th Division in the Pacific.
Tynes was a wonderful family man who enjoyed sailing on Galveston Bay with Sissy, his children and grandchildren. He was a Past Commodore of Houston Yacht Club and was an Admiral in the Texas Navy. He was also an airplane pilot.
Tynes is preceded in death by his parents; and by his daughter, the late Claudia Sparks Cannon. He is survived by his wife, Mary Isabelle (Sissy) Sparks; his daughter, Cheryl Sparks Thomas and her husband Larry Thomas; son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Michael and Peggy Cannon; and grandsons, L. David Thomas, Jr., Travis Tynes Thomas, Brian Sparks Cannon and Sean Michael Cannon.
