OBITUARY

Audrey T. Admunsen

March 14, 1923August 17, 2010

AUDREY TUZAR AMUNDSEN, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many who had the privilege of calling her friend, passed away August, 17, 2010 after a brief struggle with lung cancer. Audrey was born in Astoria, Long Island, New York to Frank and Bertha Tuzar March 14, 1923. A precocious young woman, she graduated high school at only 14 and completed her college education at Queens College, New York, at only 19 and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

Audrey held several professional positions, including working for the FBI, until she met her future husband, E.G., on the tennis courts at a resort in MA. They married November 30, 1947 and moved to Houston where she remained a stay-at-home mom to raise Judy and Patrice, participating in all their activities as well as pursuing those of her own; she golfed at Lakeside Country Club, played tennis at the Houston Racquet Club, and played bridge anywhere she and her friends could get up a game. She and E.G. were also one of the founding families of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

After Judy and Patrice went off to college, Audrey resumed a passion for teaching and, coupled with her flair for languages, became a Spanish teacher in the Spring Branch ISD for the next 20 years. There was never a place she visited where former students wouldn’t recognize her, come up to her, and tell her how much they learned from her and valued her as a teacher – even if she was so strict. After retiring from SBISD, Audrey worked with The Blue Bird Circle and served as a translator for their Clinic for Pediatric Neurology at The Methodist Hospital.

Audrey remained an active resident of the Forum at Memorial Woods after E.G.’s death in 2003. She is survived by daughters Patrice Young and husband, Shannon, Judy Morris, grandchildren Matt and Jennifer Morris, and great-granddaughter, Leighton Morris.
