The journey through life is often filled with peaks and valleys. It is through those peaks and valleys one strives to create a legacy by leaving a lasting impact on the generations that follow. In our family’s journey, we are filled with happiness and sorrow at the loss of Audrey L. Adams Jones, 96, who has joined her Husband of 64 years, Rev. Harold R. Jones, at the feet of our Heavenly Father. Her legacy continues with her family.
In the past 96 years a high school was brought to life by the secretary full of energy. A soldier brought music to heal the hearts of thousands of troops in India. Numerous people were ministered to in Methodist churches in Texas. Troubled teenage children’s lives were changed. People throughout Texas received top notch medical care. Hundreds of families in Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Georgia and Arkansas have homes for their families. Entrepreneurs have had their businesses come to life. A love for music and art is giving way to a new generation of music and art that will help people though happiness and sorrow. Basketball, baseball, softball, and football games have been won and lost – all teaching a valuable lesson in the journey of life. Families have been changed in maternity wards of hospitals in Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, Kansas, and Virginia. This is the legacy Audrey left. And her legacy will continue through the incredible kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids that will follow in her footsteps.
Audrey was born in Burleson, Texas on October 23rd, 1921, the daughter of Loyd Adams and Ethel May Wood and grew up in the Texas valley. She married Harold Randal Jones on March 7th, 1943 and accompanied him to Austin to begin his banking career. As Harold’s career brought them to Houston, she began working as a Secretary for the Spring Branch School District. She and Harold were members of the Dairy Ashford United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas where he pastored for 4 years. She and Harold pastored churches after their retirement in Carthage, Texas. Harold precedes her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Jones Dittrich and her three children, Shea, Shanna, and Shawn, and Karen Jones Roberts and her two children, Clint and Jenny, along with 11 great-grandchildren.
Happiness and sorrow fill our hearts but Audrey’s legacy will live with us forever.
