Baldwin Cassata, age 93, born in Galveston, Texas, on the 15th of July 1917, to Sicilian immigrants Vincent and Anna Cassata, completed his earthly journey on Thursday evening, the 17th of February 2011, to rest in peace with his Eternal Father in heaven.
Baldwin was greeted by his wife Pauline, who completed her journey on the 8th of April 2010, and they are now united for eternity. He is survived by his devoted and loving daughter and son-in-law Dorann and Joe Fruia; two grandsons and their wives Judd and Annemarie Fruia and Michael and Nicci Fruia; and five great grandchildren, Anthony, Joey, Hayden, Ava and Sadie. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Cos Culotta; a sister-in-law Lia Cassata Moncus; numerous nieces and nephews, and his devoted caregiver Ana Gonzales.
Baldwin’s (or as he was fondly called by a host of devoted and loving friends, “Baldie” or just “B”) life journey was filled with adventures spanning over nine decades which he loved to share with all. He was proud of his heritage, wife and family, and his Catholic faith. He always had time to listen, share and help, with a smile on his face and maybe a cold Lone Star beer. He enjoyed most the role of Honey, Daddy, Dad and Grandpa with his wife and immediate family. He has left an indelible mark on all who have know him and we all look forward to one day, once again laughing at his sharp wit and warm, loving humor.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from three o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening on Sunday, the 20th of February, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston, where the Recitation of the Holy Rosary is to commence at five o’clock, led by the Sacred Heart Society of Little York.
The Mass of Christian Burial is to be offered at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 21st of February, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road in Houston, Texas, where the Rev. David J. DuBois and the Rev. Msgr. Frank H. Rossi, S.T.L., are to serve as concelebrants.
Honored to serve as casket bearers during the services are Judd Fruia, Michael Fruia, Anthony Fruia, Frank Fruia, Joe Culotta, Lewis Greco, and Ted Liveris.
The Rite of Committal is to follow, via an escorted cortege, at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family respectfully requests that contributions in Mr. Cassata’s name be directed to the Cassata Learning Center, 1400 Hemphill Street, Fort Worth, TX, 76104-4703.
