June 23, 1948 – June 20, 2025
Barbara Phillips Craig—affectionately known as Barb, Babs, and Baba—passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20, 2025, just days before her 77th birthday. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Barbara’s vibrant spirit and unwavering love left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Born on June 23, 1948, in St. Clair, Missouri, to Daniel Robert Phillips, Sr. and Norma Rae Phillips, Barbara grew up alongside her cherished siblings, Harriett Cartwright and Daniel Robert Phillips, Jr. She graduated from St. Clair High School in 1966, where she was a proud Bulldog, a volleyball player, a cheerleader, and Homecoming Queen—early signs of the warmth and charisma that would define her life.
Barbara’s journey took her from Missouri to the beaches of Cocoa Beach, FL, to Houston, TX, the bustle of Chicago, IL, and finally to Conroe, TX. A successful businesswoman, she owned and operated a thriving personnel agency, forming lifelong friendships with her fellow agents and clients.
On August 31, 1985, she married the love of her life, Daniel Layne Craig. Together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, dancing, and deep devotion to their blended family. Barbara’s heart knew no limits when it came to her family—she took immense joy in being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was famous among loved ones for her passion for coffee, her sense of humor, her love of dancing, and her special way of spoiling her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her children: Shane Henry Craig; Cristl Craig Hogg and husband Chad; Jason Allen Craig and wife Berenice; Merideth Colvert Zarcone and husband Steve; and Christopher Alan Colvert, II. She was a proud grandmother to Tucker Blaine, Walker Blaine, Alex Ehlers, Michaela Craig, Kennedy Craig, Jack Currie, Angelina Bell, Carlo Zarcone, Gino Zarcone, Carmen Scurlock, Vivian Zarcone, Lorenzo Zarcone, Kathryn Colvert, Emma Colvert, Christopher Colvert III, Evelyn McAdams , Luke Colvert, and Lilly Colvert. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Rhiannon Bell, Julian Bell, and Kingston Scurlock.
She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were like family. Her love extended even to her furry companions, Coco, Petey, and Charm, who brought her endless joy.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Cheryl Lynn Henry, and husband Daniel Layne Craig, her parents Daniel and Norma Phillips, and her siblings Harriett and Daniel Jr.
A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery in Houston, TX. A reception will follow the service at the same location, where family and friends will gather to honor a woman whose love knew no bounds.
“She gave us everything – her love, her strength, her wisdom. Our mother was full of life. We will always cherish her unconditional love. “
