

Barbara Myers Cody Greenwood, a native of New York State, was born on September 30, 1920 to Howard Myers and Louise Weigand Myers. Barbara’s father was the editor and publisher of The Architectural Forum in New York City. Barbara attended Bronxville schools, Wells College, and graduated from Smith College in 1942. Barbara married Dr. Melville Lockett Cody, a native Texan, and son of Judge and Mrs. Thomas Hughes Cody of Houston in 1947 and moved to Houston in 1949. Dr. Cody was a dedicated doctor and surgeon who died in 1983. Several years later, Barbara married Marvin Henderson Greenwood of Anderson, Greenwood, & Company, who died in 1993. Marvin was a devoted
father.
Barbara is survived by her children: Ann Joyce and husband Jonathan of Rhode Island, Louise Cody, Melville Cody, Jr. and wife Jan, Pamela Greenwood, Mimi Ellis and husband Leigh, Nelson Greenwood and wife Loriann of California, Benjamin Greenwood of California, John Greenwood and wife Cindy of Austin, Texas. Grandchildren: Jonathan Joyce, Will and Brian Cody, Leigh, Nelson, and John Ellis; Paige and Ben Greenwood, Harris, Nelson, and Anna Greenwood. Sisters-in-law: Muriel Cody and Ann Nold, brother-in-law Hughes Cody, and numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara is predeceased by her sister Mary Jones and her brother Howard, Jr.
Barbara was a member of St. Lukes United Methodist Church, The Southern Garden Club, The Harris County Medical Society Alliance, and The River Oaks Country Club. She was a devoted, generous, and loving mother who put her family above all else.
The family would like to thank the conscientious caregivers who dedicated themselves to Barbara’s wellbeing during her illness.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Monday August 2, 2010 at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77079. There will be a memorial service celebrating her life on Tuesday, August 3, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of St. Lukes United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, in Houston. Following the service, there will be a reception for friends and family in the adjacent Hine’s Baker Room.
