She was the best theater teacher ever! She was caring and kind and all ways there when i need help with a script for theater camp!

I think of Barbara every time I catch myself standing in what she called the "7th grade girl stance".  She was a wonderful actress and an even better teacher/mentor. I'm sorry I never got to thank her for the positive influence she has had on my life. 

I was a student of Barbara's for a few years before her passing. She shaped my love for the theater and many aspects of my lust for life, even after the first week I knew her. I adore this woman and think of her often. Rest in peace you wonderful spirit, I love you dearly!

Recently, I began searching for Barbara, my dear drama coach back in the late winter/early spring of 1999, and was stunned and broken-hearted to find that she is no longer with us. I loved Barbara from the first night of class, and I had lots of company - I think the entire class felt the same way I did. She had a rare combination of warmth and passion for what she was doing that made her completely beguiling. She could have us in stitches interpreting one part, and half a minute later, we'd be unsuccessfully fighting back tears as she took on another role, each time becoming the character she was portraying. When she acted with her daughter in Steel Magnolias, my wife, her sisters and my sister, all of whom I dragged to the performance, were in tears, as was I. I've seen some great acting, but I've never seen anyone who could become another character better than Barbara could. She was as good as it gets. Whether she was a realtor selling a home made from inferior bricks, or selling ice cream made in the heart of Texas...whether she was a bartender in the Yellow Rose, or a conservative Dallas matron who didn't approve of "certain things" that happened to hit close to home...or whether she was simply being herself - a dear friend who talked me off the ledge one night, a few weeks after the class was finished, when I had a medical scare and turned to her for comfort - she owned whatever role she played. With her passing, a bright light went out. My very belated sympathies to her family and loved ones. 

My wonderful galant friend, I will miss her forever. We became fast friends from the start by way of the theatre and our close friendship of over 20 years was the greatest production I've ever been part of. Farewell, my friend.

How very sad to hear this news about my dear friend Barbara. Barbara was always so very kind to me and our time together doing "On Golden Pond" was such a wonderful experience. She will always be a part of the memories I hold dear when I remember my time at Country Playhouse.  Gordon W. Mayne

Oh, no, dear Barbara!  How I loved her.  I am so sad.

A shock to find this.  The world is duller and drabber without you. Who else could play Hecuba at 20 yet have such a great laugh?  Rest in peace, my old friend.
