We are here today not to morn, but to celebrate the life of Barbara Lee Hughes McGahey. Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and friend. On February 29th, 1954, Barbara met the love of her life, Jack McGahey, a member of the United States Air Force. Not 14 months later on April 18th, 1955, they got married in the town of Elsa, Texas, making Barbara a McGahey. They spent every day of their lives together until the day John passed June 11th, 1994. But Barbara was still a devoted wife celebrating her 69th anniversary to her late husband John.
Being a devoted member to the Catholic church, Barbara could be seen with her many peers donating their time and skill quilting, crocheting, and sewing blankets for anyone in need. She also cherished her time as a teachers aid, especially around Christmas time when she played the role of Mrs. Clause for the schools Santa photos. Barbara enjoyed her time spent helping raise her grandchildren. She liked to fill her free time with cross stitching and solving puzzles.
You would also have no problem running into her at the Bingo Hall with her friends and family. Barbara is survived by her children. Thomas McGahey, his 3 children, and 7 grandchildren. Debra McGahey Borders her spouse Alan Diehl, her 2 children, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Mike McGahey and his spouse Sis McGahey, their 4 children, and 8 grandchildren. And her son Chuck McGahey.
