A visitation for Beatrice will be held Sunday, March 8, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a mass service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at Funeraria Del Angel North, 5100 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77022.
Beatrice is survived her 2 sons Johnny David and Joe Daniel Montenegro, and her husband of 43 years, John R. Montenegro. She now joins her mom and dad, Porfirio and Sabina, and brother Gordo in heaven.
Beatrice grew up in a small house in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico with her 2 brothers, Gordo and Luis, and younger sister Tana. When she grew up, she went to live with relatives in Bloomington, Illinois. Meme and Ofelia took her in as their own daughter and got her a job cleaning at the local St. Joseph Hospital. It was here that one day she met a man who, stricken by her beauty as she rode her bike passed him, stopped his car to ask her out on a date. Little did she know, that man would go on the be her husband of 44 years, John Montenegro. They were married on April 3, 1976. They continued living in Bloomington until 1982 when they decided to pack up and take their talents and 2-year-old son, Johnny, to the great state of Texas.
Houston is where they chose to lay down roots and where their second son, Joe, was born. They raised them both to be kind and responsible men, encouraging and molding them to be successful. Bea stressed the importance of education and spent many thankless hours dedicated to participating in her sons' school and sports activities. She never missed a game or let her kids forget to do their homework. She worked tirelessly as a homemaker and family finance manager. Bea was the master of making a dollar out of 15 cents and known throughout the family as the best negotiator around.
Anyone visiting the Montenegro home could see her love for her family, evidenced by the many photos proudly scattered throughout, as well as her love for travel on the refrigerator where she displayed magnets from places she's visited. She was proud to have visited 41 states, with frequent visits to Las Vegas, Lake Charles and Biloxi to try her luck on the slot machines.
When she walked into a room, her smile lit up the place. She was full of life, but sadly battled through rheumatoid arthritis most of her adult life. She has finally lost her fight, but will never be forgotten for her strength and bravery. She fought through the pain to be there for her friends and family for as long as she could, but may now rest in love and peace, and will forever live in their hearts and memories. Her family will always miss her and always be grateful for everything she gave them.
