Our beloved Becky possessed a generosity of spirit that was a blessing to all. She was a Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Ommi, and friend to everyone she came in contact with and never met a stranger. She lived a life that attested her sincerity and resounded to the praise of God. She was born on the 30th of January 1937, and had just celebrated her 85th birthday. She devoted her life to family, friends and business. Becky and her husband Charles, the love of her life, started Barrier Equipment, Inc. in 1970 and worked side by side, until his death in 2014. She continued with the business they built, known for their reputation of integrity and commitment to their customers, until the day she died.
Becky loved the Carrizo Springs ranch life and was an avid hunter and a deadly shot. She always got her limit on quail and dove and has many beautiful trophy bucks to prove it. She loved entertaining, cooking for a crowd of friends and celebrating life any and every day. She was a legend that we will miss.
She devoted 40+ years to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, serving on different committees starting with the Souvenir Program Committee, Chairman of the Alief Go Texan Committee, and a Diplomat on the International Committee and ending as a Lifetime Director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She was one of the early Trailblazer honorees, a member of The Amigas Para Niños, The Shooters Club, Texas Coastal Cattlewomen, The Silver Spur Club and many more organizations that benefited so many people and particularly young boys and girls.
Becky, with Charles by her side, loved traveling and seeing the world especially with The International Committee. They, with their merry band of friends, explored so many countries, met so many interesting people and shared so many experiences together. They represented the HLSR with class and dignity.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Henry Barrier; her parents, Lemuel and Mary Elizabeth Pullen Matthews; her brother, Kenneth Matthews; her sister, Mary Jule Matthews Parker and her husband Ken Parker.
