August 14, 1964July 27, 2020

Benjamin Edward Kearney, Jr. passed away at age 55 at his home in Houston, Texas on July 27, 2020, after a 12-month battle with glioblastoma. He was born August 14, 1964 in Houston, TX to Benjamin and Dorothy Kearney.

Ben received his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Houston, then received a second Bachelors degree in Accounting from New Mexico State. He worked at American General for many years as a mutual fund accountant before starting his own business.

Ben loved music, and was an accomplished self-taught guitarist. When he wasn’t performing with his band Nick Lush, he could be found at numerous live music venues with his friends. Ben was also a man of strong Christian faith. He attended Willow Meadows Baptist Church for many years, and performed in the church band.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his fiancé Diane. He is survived by his sister Deborah, and his fiancé’s two daughters, Frances and Patricia.

Ben’s family and friends would like to express deep gratitude to the many caregivers and medical staff who treated him with kindness, respect and professionalism. From his surgeons at HCA Healthcare, to his oncology team at MD Anderson, and finally his in-home caregivers and hospice team, Ben received outstanding care.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a private service will be held on Friday August 7. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Ben’s name to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Ben was a fun loving and warm soul when we spent our freshman year in college together, hanging out, with his roomate & friend David Kwan. Ben sure did love playing guitar, and everything related to music. I remember his parents bought him a jeep that we tooled around Houston in.. Memories of Ben & Dave bring a smile to my face..

My heart goes out to you at this sad time when the loss of a loved
one makes no sense. Many of us remember Ben fondly from our junior high days and his guitar playing as part of the Aramco Brat garage band in Phoenix in May 2019.
Godspeed to you all.

Hope the “Risk” games continue to be a challenge LOL! We spent so many hours laughing, playing and rolling dice! Maybe we will get to play again one day...
