Bernadette Rose Guidry

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Bernadette Rose Guidry (née Tyrkala), devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed after a valiant battle with cancer on August 5, 2026, at her home in Houston surrounded by family.

Born December 31, 1950, Bernadette lived 75 years defined by unconditional love, spunky humor, fierce independence, and deep devotion to her family and friends.

She grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey, among a large Catholic family where she would eventually begin a family of her own, moving to Belgium with her husband and young daughter Michelle where she relished the opportunity to travel and see the world as a military wife.

Bernadette settled in Houston after Michelle graduated high school where she began her long career with BP as Learning Center Manager. After retiring, Bernadette embraced the simple joys of life, rediscovering a passion for baking and showing her love to others in the form of shared meals.

Bernadette is survived in Houston by her daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Scott Thetford; In Chicago by her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kristen and Christopher Wormwood, and granddaughter and grandson-in-love, Brittany Laurent and Dani Fogarty; In Mountainside, New Jersey by her sister, Ann Brown, and niece Christine Charlton; in Westfield, New Jersey by her niece and nephew-in-law Robyn and Horst Percival; and in Barnegat, New Jersey, by her brother and sister-in-law, Walter “Kookie” and Diane Tyrkala.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Alexandria “Olga” Tyrkala, her brother-in-law, Kenneth Brown, and Michelle's father, Al Guidry.

A celebration of life will be held on August 29, 2026, from 12–3pm in the clubhouse at Solea Copperfield (8300 Queenston Blvd. Cypress, TX 77095), where she found much joy and

friendship in her retirement. We invite all who knew and loved Bernadette to join us in celebrating her life and honoring her memory.
