Bernard Ray Bailey, son of the late Charles L. Bailey, Jr. and Theresa Lewandowski Bailey was born September 20, 1954 in Houston, Texas at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He attended Almeda Elementary and was a graduate of Madison High School. As owner of Bailey’s House of Guns, Bernard spent his life surrounded by the people he loved most in the business he loved most.
At an early age Bernard enjoyed shooting, and became a Bird Boy at Greater Houston Gun Club where his specialty was shooting a shotgun from the hip, upside down. Bernard had many other interests and was also a track & field star – and, yes, as he reminded everyone - he did it all with only nine toes. Bernard gained the love of hunting from his father, and enjoyed many trips to Cimarron, New Mexico to hunt mountain lions, elk, mule deer and bear. Bernard had a heart of gold, and spent the majority of his free time helping friends and family. His life was adventurous – Bernard lived it on his own terms – and he will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Bernard quietly departed this life Thursday, October 31, 2019 at his home in Houston, Texas. He will be deeply missed by his son: Bernard James Bailey; daughter-in-law, Bliss Bailey; grandson, Brody James Bailey; brother, Charles “Butch” Bailey; sister, Karen Bailey Pridgen, brother-in-law, Jack Pridgen; devoted family members: Shirley Shaddix and Rosie Oaks and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many great friends.
