Bernice May Odom

Bernice Odom, age 88, recently of Austin, Texas passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023. Bernice was born in Billings, Montana on November 23, 1934 to Mallory and Bertie Hurley. She was the oldest of nine children, having three brothers and five sisters. Bernice was a Christian and was baptized into the Church of Christ. She was a long-time resident of Houston.

Bernice married Bernard Schiro in 1957 and they had three children, Lisa, Terri and Paul. Bernice and Bernard were married for 14 years and divorced in 1971. Bernice remarried in 1973 to Earl Odom and with Earl’s passing in 1975 was widowed.

Bernice worked in the medical technology field as a laboratory technician for many years in Houston and was highly regarded in her field.

Bernice is preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa Schiro. She is survived by her daughter, Terri Geymer and son, Paul Schiro; five grandchildren, Taylor Lawson, Tara and Alyssa Clodfelter, Alana and Jonathan Geymer; two great-grandsons, Cohen Lawson and Callum Williams; sisters, Elizabeth Hurley, Helen Hurley, Lela Moonjian, Carolyn Redd and Marilyn Hurley; two nieces, Courtney Redd and Dayna Stallcup; two great-nieces, Sydney and Emma Stallcup and great-nephew, Dylan Stallcup.
