Berenice Rae, of Houston, Texas fondly known as Berry, passed away peacefully at her home on June 30, 2017. Berry was born in the Transkei, South Africa to parents Jack and Sally Metter. She attended Queenstown boarding school and then went on to Bookkeeping/Secretarial college. After marrying the love of her life, Clive (now deceased) they had three children.
At the age of 50, she immigrated with her family to Houston. She was instrumental in starting Thorntree Slate and Marble where she worked for 35 years alongside her husband, Clive and son, Stuart. She built the business on hard work, integrity and a desire to always ‘go the extra mile’ for every client. Berry was the most loving, kind and giving person, and she was admired, loved and appreciated by the many lives she touched.
Berry was an avid Scrabble player, enjoyed the daily crossword and when at home could always be found working on a puzzle. First and foremost, her pride and joy was her love for her family and time they spent together. She is survived by her sister, Norma Joseph, her children Shelley Ekeroth and husband Jeff, Jenny Knodell and husband Steve, and Stuart Rae and wife Patricia. In addition, she was blessed with three loving grandchildren, Kimberly Knodell, Keegan Rae and Hannah Rae. She is also survived by a team of 35 loving members of Thorntree and many friends.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Friday, July 14th at 11 am at Brookside Funeral Home, located at 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston TX 77095, officiated by Reverend Jim Barclift. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Berry has asked that donations be made to Accredited Hospices of America, 14520 Old Katy Rd. #101, Houston Texas 77079
