We are gathered here today in the memory of Bertha L. Fobbs, so that together we may acknowledge and share both our joy in the gift that her life was to us, and the pain that her passing brings. In sharing the joy and the pain together today, may we lessen the pain and remember more clearly the joy.
Bertha was only 72 years old when she passed away on Friday April 7th, 2023, in Houston, TX. While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are at an end, there is pain and sadness. But even though she is gone, she has left the legacy of her love and perseverance. The ways she touched our lives and others will remain, and we ask you to keep those memories alive by sharing them with us and with one another.
Bertha L Fobbs was born on Jan 7th, 1951 to Earma L Williams (Carroll) and Wilson Williams in Monroe, LA. She graduated from Alto High School in Alto, LA and was an active alumni. She relocated to Milwaukee, WI and years later relocated to Houston, TX, where she fulfilled her life. She spent the greater amount of her professional career in the healthcare field. However, she retired in Logistics. She could light up a room with her smile and personality. This family, and her role as mother, sister, grandmother and friend, was the most important thing to her. This is where she drew her strength and left her legacy. Being with her family was what Bertha enjoyed most of all. Her life had many obstacles, and she struggled for the last year with a devastating illness. Yet through it all, her love and care for her family helped her remain focused, and in so many, many ways, she was able to continue to love and fight for us through it all. This perseverance through adversity is a powerful lesson for us, and I believe it is her legacy.
She leaves behind 1 significant other Eddie Alexander, 2 children Maria Roventini (WI), Leslie Fobbs (WI), 3 siblings Bertha (Mae) Chatmon (TX), Brenda (Bren) Williams (LA), and Timothy (Timmy) Williams (TX), 5 grandchildren Tiffany Fobbs (TX), Jonathan Fobbs (TX), Justin Fobbs (TX), Joshua Hazelwood (WI), and Ja'Monte Fobbs-Thacker (WI), and slew of nieces/nephews and great-grandchildren.
She will proceed in death with her mother Earma Williams, father Wilson Williams, brother Calvin Williams, brother Samuel "DeDe" Williams, sister Cynthia (Cindy) Dobbins, and son Herbert Fobbs Jr.
