Bertha S Marquez

Bertha S. Marquez, 92, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, August 16, 2026. Born in Houston, Texas, on March 15, 1934, Bertha was a lifelong Houstonian whose vibrant spirit, strong work ethic, and deep devotion to her family defined her remarkable life.

After graduating from business school, Bertha launched a dedicated career in trust banking, where her diligence led her to Texas Commerce Bank, retiring as Records Supervisor. Never one to stay idle, she went on to work for O'Connor & Associates Appraisers as a records clerk and eventually concluded her professional years serving with the Harris County Appraisal Board.

Beyond her career, Bertha lived life with passion and joy. She was famous for her festive heart, most notably for celebrating Christmas all year long as an avid collector of Hallmark ornaments and Precious Moments figurines. She loved listening to Latin singers, especially Julio Iglesias, and held fond memories of cheering on the Houston Oilers as a season ticket holder alongside her younger brother, John. Guided by a deep and enduring faith, one of her life’s highlight journeys was a European religious pilgrimage, where she visited many of the world’s most significant Catholic churches and sacred shrines.

Bertha was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Benevendo Sarabia; her father, Felipe A. Sarabia; her stepmother, Francisca Sarabia; her brothers, Alfredo Sarabia, Felipe Sarabia, and John Sarabia; and her sister, Ernestine Garcia.

She is survived by her loving son, Albert A. Marquez Jr., and his wife, Robin; her cherished grandchildren, Ryan A. Marquez, Connor K. Marquez, Kyle M. Marquez, and Paige M. Marquez; her brother, Emilio A. Sarabia, and his wife, Laly; her sister-in-law, Maria Sarabia; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. She was also a devoted godmother to the children of family and close friends, a role she held with immense pride and affection.

Burial: Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023.

Memorial Donations: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bertha's memory to the Dementia Society of America.
