Bette Bobbitt

Bette Jean Hastings Bobbitt, passed away peacefully at her home on September 9, 2026, at the remarkable age of 103. She was born to Dr. Charles and Lillie Hastings in Springfield, Illinois on July 30, 1923. Bette lived a long and wonderful life filled with family, friendships and many fun and happy times.

Bette attended Williamsville High School in Williamsville, Illinois where her father, Dr. Charles Hastings had an active large animal veterinarian practice. After graduating from high school, Bette headed to Washington D.C. and worked as Secretary for the British General staff during World War II. During the war, Bette met George Bobbitt, her husband of seventy-six years, at a USO dance in Chicago, Illinois. The two were married in Urbana, Illinois in 1947. After George completed college at the University of Illinois, the couple moved to Houston, Texas in 1948. George started working as a property tax consultant for Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company, which later became Tenneco, Inc. George worked his way up and rose to the position of Director of Property Tax for Tenneco's properties across the country and completed his 36-year career at Tenneco in 1984. They began their family adopting their daughter Robin in 1955 and son Jack in 1959.

It was at Tenneco's company golf and activity facility in Waller, Texas, Tennwood, that both George and Bette started playing golf and Bette became active in the ladies golf association at Tennwood. Bette and George spent many fun times over the years playing golf and socializing with all of their Tenneco friends.

After George's retirement in 1984, the couple joined BraeBurn Country Club where they were active members and golfers for over 38 years. It was at BraeBurn where they made many new friends and enjoyed playing golf several times a week. Bette was very active in the Women's Golf Association and served as President of the organization in 1991. Both Bette and George enjoyed BraeBurn and played golf and socialized there into their nineties. The Bobbitt family enjoyed many dinner, activities and holiday meals at BraeBurn that has provided great memories for the entire family.

Bette was preceded in death by George F. Bobbitt in 2024 age 101; her parents; her sister Mona May Graham and her husband Joseph Graham. Bette is survived by her daughter Robin S. Bobbitt of Houston, Texas; son Jack Bobbitt and his wife Jian of Houston, Texas; nephew Richard Graham of St. Louis, Illinois; and niece Diane Bensko of Pleasant Plains, Illinois.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at two o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 17th of September 2026, in the Texas Liberty Mausoleum Chapel at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway in Houston, where the funeral service commences at three o'clock.

Immediately following, all are invited to join the family at the graveside service at Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
