Bette Pyland Fincher

Bette Pyland Fincher, 97, passed away on May 16, 2026. Born on October 30, 1928, in Stephens, Arkansas, Bette later made her home in Houston, Texas.

Throughout her long life, Bette was marked by steady devotion, a faithful spirit, and a patient strength that quietly guided those around her. In both ordinary days and meaningful seasons, she carried herself with a kind-hearted gentleness and a thoughtful regard for others that will be remembered with gratitude.

Bette served her community with diligence and care. She worked as a realtor with Phil Howell Realtors and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. She also drove a school bus for the Spring Branch School District for about eight years, a role that reflected her dependable nature and her willingness to serve where she was needed.

Bette met her husband, Dorsey Fincher, while they both attended high school in Kilgore, Texas. They were married in 1946. In 1957, they moved to Houston, where they raised their family and built a life grounded in commitment and constancy.

Her faith was central to her life. Bette read and studied her Bible and was an avid reader of biblical history. She participated in her church study group and was a member of Houston's First Baptist Church, where her faithful presence and quiet encouragement were a meaningful part of her spiritual community.

Bette is survived by her sons, Steve Fincher (Susan) and Bruce Fincher; her sister Rosemary Swindell (Doyle); her grandchildren, Reagan Fincher (Shelly), Lindsey Callegari (Rob), Caitlin Zorn (Blake) and Travis Fincher (Lyndsay); and her great-grandchildren, Kennan Fincher, Cade Fincher, Corrine Fincher, Drew Callegari, Ellie Callegari, Drew Zorn, Parker Fincher, William Fincher, and Hayes Fincher. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband Dorsey Fincher and her sister Tommie Boyd.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 12:30 P.M. at the Memorial Oaks Mausoleum Chapel prior to the burial. A Graveside Service will follow at 1:00 P.M. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079.
