Bettie was born on April 18, 1944, in Houston, Texas, to Joshaway Oscar Wood and Claudia Maye Hicks. She was raised in Houston and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School.
Bettie lived life with a strong spirit and on her own terms. She was hardworking, fiercely independent, and generous. Though she was not one to express her love through words or displays of affection, she often showed her care through thoughtful gifts and practical acts of kindness. After accepting an early retirement from AT&T in 1984, Bettie began a second career with Phillips Petroleum Company, later retiring from Chevron Phillips Chemical in 2014.
Bettie had a creative side and was especially known for the beautiful, elaborate bows she crafted for family gifts. Her attention to detail transformed even the simplest package into something special, and her signature bows became a memorable part of many family celebrations.
Bettie is survived by her sister, Patsy Breivogel and her husband, Bill Breivogel; and her brother, Frank Wood and his wife, Jodi Wood.
