Bettie passed on Monday, May 31, 2021. Her memory and spirit will be forever fixed in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her. She never met a stranger, nor a person in need who she would not help.
Bettie attended Phillis Wheatly High School where she participated as a majorette for the school’s band. Her career life was rich and rewarding. Bettie was an Aerospace Machinist with the Boeing Company for 37 years. Her early career as a cosmetologist continued to be reflected in her sense of style and good taste. She always dreamed of becoming a teacher someday, and she pursued that dream in her retirement years. Bettie completed her college degree and pursued her dream with Head Start.
She was a faithful member of the Lord’s church from the day of her baptism until her passing. She was an avid reader and student of the Word, a bible school teacher, active in church ministries, and on several occasions, a keynote speaker for ladies’ day programs. Bettie loved music, traveling, cooking and extending the hospitality of her home. Bettie was a friend, confidant, counselor, and so many took the liberty of calling her “mother”. She was most recently a member of the South Union Church of Christ, Houston, Texas. Her previous memberships included: 20th Street Church of Christ, St. Petersburg, Florida, Southside Church of Christ, Seattle, Washington, and Dakota Street Church of Christ, Seattle, Washington.
Bettie is preceded in death by her parents: Jimmie E. Thompson and Lenora B. (Williams) Thompson.
Cherishing her memory are her children: Brenda Joyce Tolbert (Ervan), Michael Anthony Woods (Linda), and James Walter Woods. Siblings: Eddie Mae Hightower, and Frederick Dwain Thompson, Sr. (Ann). Grandchildren: Michael Kristopher Woods, Mia Danielle Woods, Anthony Brendon Woods, Dimitri Jai Woods (Jay), Bettie Lenora Mack (Kevin), Christian L. Bell, and Micheal W.
