Betty Jane Dodson Brooks, age 79, was called to be with her Lord on Saturday, the 22nd of October 2011, while surrounded by her family in Houston. Betty was born in Sherman, Texas on the 29th of February 1932. She graduated from Austin College with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1953. Soon after, she married her childhood friend and true love of 58 years, Fred A. Brooks.
Betty loved children and had a true gift of making them smile. She volunteered for many years with Texas Children's Hospital supplying children with arts and crafts projects and knitting baby bonnets for the newborns. Betty and Fred were dedicated members of the Texas Coastal Brittany Club. Betty also loved the outdoors. Being an avid fisher, Betty caught an Amberjack that was about as big as she was along with some lesser fish while deep-sea fishing. She and Fred loved going to their weekend “farm” where they enjoyed memorable gatherings with family and friends, fishing, gardening flowers as well as vegetables, and bird watching. Betty and Fred also had the opportunity to travel all over the world and enjoy special friendships and unique experiences from wine tastings in Europe to trailing giant tortoise in the Galapagos Islands.
Betty will be welcomed into heaven by her parents, William Raymond and Jane Dodson; and a brother, Al Dodson, who preceded her in death. Betty will be dearly missed as she is survived by her husband, Fred, and their beloved dog, Betsy; her nephew, Brody Dodson and wife, Michelle, of Flower Mound; two nieces, Mysti Dodson, of Flower Mound, and Crysti Elder and husband, Jonathan, of Lewisville; two great nieces, Meagan and Peyton Dodson; a sister in-law, Nickie Williams and her husband, Mansel, of Lewisville; and a cousin, Martha Melton of Fort Worth.
The family would also like to express a special thanks to Houston Hospice for the care they gave Betty.
