Mom, 92, was born November 1, 1929 in Three Oaks, Michigan and passed away October 31, 2022 in Houston, Texas. She was the youngest of 8, all born at home. She was usually the 3rd wheel when her brothers had dates!
Mom’s family owned a small dairy in Three Oaks, a small Midwest town about 90 miles from Chicago, just a few miles from Lake Michigan. Even though Mom was born during the height of the Great Depression, she always talks about how her family had plenty of butter, milk and ice cream because of the dairy. Mom helped with the dairy by pedaling milk with her dad when she could barely see over the steering wheel.
Mom met Dad at a wedding where she was the maid of honor and he was best man! Although they had grown up in the same town they had never met. Shortly after they were married, they moved to Texas. They were married for 67 years!!!
Mom was fun. She liked loading us all up for instantaneous beach trips, trips to the bay where we learned to crab, (we didn’t like to eat them back then!). We all dressed as pirates for Halloween one year, and she loved decorating every inch of the house for the holidays.
Family events were special and still are. Mom has 5 children. 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren including newborn twins.
Mom was multi talented. She served at Alief Community Church in many different ways Ladies Circle, teacher, treasurer, choir, as well as Alief school activities, PTA President and secretary.
Mom touched so many lives and has special relationships with so many.
Mom embodies the Proverbs 31 woman. She took care of Dad after his heart attack. She went to work to help save money for their retirement. She babysat grand babies, she loved her neighbors and her friends and touched many lives.
Mom was the glue in our family. She was the heart of our family. She has struggled these last years but we children considered it an honor to take care of her. She did such an amazing job taking care of all of us.
A celebration of life for mom will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Alief Community Church, 4137 G Street, Houston, TX 77072.
