OBITUARY

Beverley Alderson

October 5, 1933April 19, 2011

Beverley Alderson, 77, passed on April 19, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer and went peacefully into the arms of Jesus. She was born in Houston, Texas on October 5, 1933, to Walter A. and Mary G. Bohn. Beverley was preceded in death by both of her parents. She was a graduate of Lamar High School in Houston, TX and attended the University of Houston. She was an active member of St. Cuthbert Episcopal Church where she served in a number of capacities, with the members of the church being her extended family. Mom was an only child, and we can still hear her telling us not to have an “only” child since she was so lonely growing up. We think that she has more than made up for being an “only child” with the number of brothers and sisters in Christ whom she has come to know and love over her lifetime. Mom was a woman of poise and grace at all times, steadfast in her faith, and always had a smile on her face. What an amazing woman! We can only hope to be half the person that she was. Beverley is survived by her daughters, Lori Alderson Shafer and husband Andrew Shafer of Katy, TX, Erin Alderson and Amy Alderson both of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jordan Shafer and Emily Shafer; along with many loving family members and friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at St. Cuthbert Episc. Church, 17020 West Rd, Houston, Texas 77095. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 6301 Richmond Ave., Houston, Texas 77057, 1-800-227-2345; Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd. https://www.cancer.org/involved/donate/donateonlinenow (copy and paste into your browser), Houston, Texas, 77030, 713-467-7423, www.houstonhospice.org; and to Caring Bridge, www.caringbridge.org.

Bev and her family made me feel at home when I moved to Houston and they all have always been people who are quick to smile and to welcome others.

Thank you all for your openness and generosity.

I was four years old when I met Beverley and have shared a lifetime of experiences during the past 60 years as family. But my favorite time with Beverley has been our shared motherhood with the blessings of her 3 daughters and my daughter and son. My lasting memories will be our family reunions at our home at Canyon Lake and this past Thanksgiving at Jim and Daisy Longmire's home with all of us together; her children and mine and her grandchildren. I was blessed to spend time with Beverley and her daughters in Erin's home 2 weeks ago and left with a great feeling of grace, peace, and joy which will remain with me always.

My husband shared memories of you from his childhood but he never mentioned how funny you were. So glad I got to meet you and your children.

Hard to believe I have known you over 30 years. Your footprint was gently etched upon my heart.

When we met at Holy Spirit in the early 70's, little did we know we'd also become neighbors. Knowing you has enriched me and I will miss you my friend.

Bev,

You were the first person we met when we walked thru the doors of St Cuthbert. We miss your sunny smile and hugs but we know we will see you again in Heaven. Thank you for the servant heart you possessed on earth. We were blessed that God allowed us to "connect" with you here.

Love,

Karen Cook
