Beverly Rudy, a pioneering woman, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, lawyer and storyteller, passed away on Mother’s Day, just shy of her 93rd birthday. She left us in the bold, dramatic fashion that defined her life—always making an entrance and leaving a lasting impression.
A proud rebel, Beverly left her home in Tulsa at sixteen to attend the University of Texas, where she pursued a degree in theatre. She later earned her law degree from the University of Houston in 1955 and was a trailblazer for women in law, co-authoring The Legal Rights of Texas Women and working alongside figures like Gloria Steinem and Ruby Lee Sondock.
Beverly met the love of her life, Ellis Rudy, at a college party, and together they raised two children, Randall and Russell. Ellis, who preceded her in death, was her devoted partner and soulmate. Beverly and Ellis shared a life full of love, laughter, and adventure, including countless family trips. Tragically, her son Russell also preceded her in death, but both will be lovingly remembered by Beverly’s surviving son, Randy, and her four grandchildren, Austin, Allison, Julian, and Riley Rudy.
Beverly was known for her sharp wit, unfiltered opinions, and her legendary ability to tell stories—often mixing fact with her own colorful “truths.” She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 18th of May in the Kagan Rudy Chapel of Emanu El Memorial Park, 8341 Bissonnet Street in Houston.
Her legacy of love, strength, and storytelling will live on in all who knew her. Rest well, Beverly—may your stories continue in heaven, where Ellis and Russell are waiting.
